Seniors Sue Jensen and Liz Kelly Top Notch for Smith
at the Tartan Co-Ed Track & Field Invitational

Northampton, MA: On a day when Smith Track and Field Alumnae returned to campus to celebrate the programs 25th Anniversary, current team members Sue Jensen (Saxsons River, VT) and Liz Kelly (Storrs, CT) proved that the team has just as much to celebrate in the present, as the two seniors dominated each of their individual events at the team’s annual Tartan Co-Ed Invitational today.

Jensen got her team off to a great start earlier this morning by vaulting her way to a first place win in the Women’s Pole Vault, reaching a height of 9-01.00. Distance runner Kelly would follow suit in the afternoon when she out-paced her opponents in the 5000m Run finishing with a time of 18:30.25.

While Smith went on to finish 8th overall in the team standings, other Smith tracksters put in sound performances. First year sprinter Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR) placed 5th in the 55m Dash (7.75), McKane Sharff (Arlington, MA) finished 16th in the 200m Dash (29.21) while Edwards (29.45) and first year Caitlin Ritchie (Meridian, CT) (29.47) followed closely behind in 19th and 20th place respectively. Ritchie then went on to take a 14th place finish in the 400m Dash. Senior Patti Rebull (Union City, NJ) claimed 8th in the 55m Hurdles (10.11).

In addition to Jensen, other field event participants for Smith included Edwards in the Long Jump (4.56m) where she earned a 6th place spot, and Katie Walters-Krohn (Minneapolis, MN) whose 13.69m was good enough for 4th place in the Weight Throw, while her 11.88m throw in the Shot Put earned her a 5th place finish.

Smith Track & Field will compete in the MIT Invitational next weekend, Saturday, February 11th.
