MA: The Pioneers had some great performances today as they placed
fourth (84 points) in the NEWMAC Track & Field Championships behind
Wheaton (211.5 points); Springfield (115.5), and MIT (141). Coast Guard
finished in 5th with 72 points followed by WPI with 63, Mount Holyoke
with 47 and Babson with 4.
Senior Katie Walters-Krohn (Minneapolis, MN) led Smith winning the discus and shot-put events with throws of 120' 3" and 40' 1/4" respectively. She also finished third in the hammer. First year Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) won the steeplechase in 11:12.96 which provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Senior Liz Kelly (Storrs, CT) also took a first place for the Pioneers in the 5,000m with a time of 17:52.20 with teammate Alison Cloutier (East Hampton, CT) finishing fourth. Junior McKane Sharff( Arlington, MA) took second in the 200m with a time of 26.79 and was fourth in the 100m (12.96). First year Celeste Booth (Sante Fe, NM) placed 8th in the 400 IH and 11th in the 400m and along with Sharff, CaitlinRitchie (Meriden, CT), and Ebonie Tillmon (Chica, IL) raced to fourth place in the 4x100m relay. She was also a member of the 4x400m relay along with Ritchie,Youngs and Sharff that also finished fourth. Susan Jensen (Saxons River, VT) placed fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 9' while Ritchie took 6th in the javelin with a throw of 103' 11". Walters-Krohn, Youngs and Kelly all were named to the All Conference First Team while Sharff earned Second team honors. |
