April 22, 2006 Northampton, MA: The
Pioneers dropped the first game of a scheduled doubleheader today to Coast
Guard 9-0 in six innings in the rain. The second game was called after one
inning with the score Smith 2, Coast Guard 1 and is scheduled to resume Monday at 5 p.m. The Bears
scored four runs in the first two innings of play. Stephanie
Kimmel (San Antonio, TX) opened
the game with a double and scored an unearned run on an error. In the second
inning, Erin Cullen (Dublin, OH) led
off with a walk followed by Colleen
Perry (Norwalk, CT) and Jeannie
Crump (Roseville, CA) who were hit by pitches. With one out and bases
loaded, Meagan Schoenhardt (Sacramento,
CA) doubled to deep center and picked up three RBI’s to give the Bears a
4-0 lead. Coast Guard scored five more
runs in the 6th to end the game 9-0. Crump and Perry each had two hits for Coast Guard while Schoenhardt tallied four RBI’s. Senior pitcher Katie Maroney (Santa Clarita, CA) struggled on the mound in the loss for Smith giving up two hits and four runs in two innings. The Pioneers picked up just four hits in the game, two by Sara Watson (Kent, WA) and one each by Katie Schoenen (Ellicott City, MD) and Amber Bourque-Laycsak (Tinley Park, IL). With the
win, Coast Guard improved to 19-18 overall and 9-6 in NEWMAC competition while
Smith dropped to 17-14 overall and 8-7 in conference play. |
