               Softball Blanks Brandeis 7-0

Waltham, MA:  First year Emily Hiltzik (Westbury, NY) pitched her third shut-out of the year yesterday against Brandeis and gave up just five hits in the Pioneers 7-0 defeat of the Judges. With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 14-13 overall while Brandeis fell to 13-20.

     Senior Sara Watson (Kent, WA) had an outstanding game for Smith as she went 4 for 4 at the plate, scored a run and picked up two RBI's.  First year Erin Quinn(Northbrook, IL) was 2 for 3 and also tallied two RBI's, both in the fourth inning on a two-out single.  Shortstop Katie Schoenen (Ellicott City, MD) also picked up two hits in the win for Smith.
     Hiltzik, who faced 25 batters in her shutout, picked up her sixth win in eight outings while Natalie Volpe (Southington, CT)  took the loss for Brandeis.
     The Pioneers will be in action again today when they travel to valley rival Amherst College for a 4 pm contest.
