| April 1, 2006 For Immediate Release Contact: Carole Grills (413) 585-2703 Tracksters Perform Well At Springfield Invitational Springfield, MA: Individuals from the outdoor track and field team had some good performances today at the non-scoring Springfield Invitational which qualfied them for the New England III and ECAC Championships. Senior Katie Walters-Krohn (Minneapolis, MN) placed second out of twenty-four in the discus with a throw of 118'11" and third out of ten in the hammer (138'6") to qualify for the ECAC championships in both events.Susan Jensen (Saxons River, VT), McKane Sharff (Arlington, MA), Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR) as well as Cailtin Ritchie (Meriden, CT), and Ebonie Tillmon (Chica, IL) all qualified for the New England III championships. Jensen tied for first in the pole vault with a height of 9'; Sharff finished 4th/16 in the 100m in 13.33; Edwards was 5/17 in the Long Jump (16' 3 1/4"), and the 4x100m relay team comprised of Sharff, Ritchie, Tillmon and Edwards placed third (51:37). Other good performances for the Pioneers were given by Liz Kelly (Storrs, CT) first in the 1500m (4:59.28); Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) 2nd in the 1500m (5:00.20); Ritchie third out of eleven in the javelin (100'11") and Walters-Krohn second in the shot (38' 5 1/2"). |
