 Western New England Lacrosse Defeats Smith 15-6

Northampton, MA:  In their last regular season game, the Pioneers fell to Western New England College today 15-6 and drop to 3-12 overall while the Golden Bears improve to 8-4.
      Western New England took a 6-1 lead into halftime behind the scoring of  Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY), Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT), Alia Andrews (Westfield, MA), Jill Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY), and Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY).  Smith’s lone goal was scored by Lesley Aldrich (Vero Beach, FL) assisted by Betsy Nickle (Wilmington, DE).
     The Pioneers closed to within four during the second half but the Golden Bears continued to attack the Smith goal outscoring the home team 6-1 in the remaining 15 minutes to play.  Devine and Vogel each scored four goals for WNEC. Goalkeeper Tara Cushman (Scituate, MA) picked up the win for WNEC making 11 saves while Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) made 22 for the Pioneers.
