CT: The Pioneers fell to Wesleyan University yesterday 16-1
dropping to 1-5 overall while the Cardinals improved to
6-1.
Wesleyan's offense and defense commanded the first half of play as they scored ten goals on eighteen shots and wouldn't allow the Pioneers a shot on goal. Smith's lone goal occurred with 1:50 remaining in the game as senior Anna Lee Harris (Saxtons River, VT) scored unassisted. Sophomore Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) made 10 saves in goal for Smith in the first 47 minutes of play with Kara Sosa (Sarasota, FL) stopping two shots in the remaining thirteen minutes. Amanda Belichick (Weston, MA) led the Cardinals in scoring with five goals and 3 assists followed by Schuyler Swenson (Englewood, CO) with four goals and two assists. Kate Jones (Duxbury, MA) and Susan Gerhardt (Wayne, PA) split goalkeeping duties allowing one goal with two saves. The Pioneers will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to West Hartford, CT to face St. Joseph's College before returning home on Saturday to host NEWMAC rival MIT at 2 pm. |
