Northampton, MA: In near white-out conditions in Northampton yesterday afternoon, Smith Lacrosse scored a baker’s dozen to top the Blazers of Elms College 13-6. The loss is the 8th straight for the Blazers while Smith improves to 3-6 with their first home win of the season. Smith junior Susie Parke-Sutherland (Columbia, MO) led all scorers with four goals and recovered 6 ground balls and added an assist on one of two goals scored by Betsy Nickle (Wilmington, DE). Junior Sara Barksdale (Baltimore, MD) took just three shots on goal and found the net all three times against the Blazers while Lindsey Aldrich (Vero Beach, FL), Lesley Aldrich (Vero Beach, FL), Ashley Bauer (Bradford, NH) and Hillary Hightower (Stone Mt., GA) picked up a goal apiece to help lead the Pioneers in non-conference play. Sophomore netminder Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) made 14 saves and allowed 6 goals in 60 minutes of play for the Pioneers, for her third win of the season. Elms sophomore Caitlyn Childs led the Blazers with two tallies and an assist. Blazer goal keeper Sheila Murphy made 5 saves while allowing 13 goals in 60 minutes of play. Smith returns to conference action on April 8th when they travel to Babson for a 12 pm game. The Beavers are 1-0 in NEWMAC play while Smith (0-2) is looking for their first conference win.
