 Crew Dominates At Tufts

 Medford, MA:  The Pioneers varsity eight, second varsity eight and second novice eight swept their races today at Tufts which should help Smith in the national rankings as well as set them up for a strong seed at New Englands.

            Under sunny skies but strong winds, the varsity eight raced to the finish in a time of 6:56.41, almost eight seconds ahead of host Tufts that finished at 7:04.15. The Pioneers were pitted against Wellesley in the second varsity race and dominated that race finishing at 7:49.70 to the Blue’s 8:43.44.  The second novice eight raced twice, against Tufts and Wellesley and won those races by 22 seconds and 1.5 seconds respectively.

            Smith’s first novice eight that placed six seconds ahead of Wellesley at the NEWMAC Championships last weekend, faltered in the winds and placed behind both Tufts and Wellesley today.

            The Smith crew, who placed third in 2005, will compete at New Englands next weekend.
