Smith Lacrosse Defeats New England College 14-9
Northampton, MA: In their last game of the season, the Smith College lacrosse team defeated New England College 14-9 this afternoon in Northampton. With the victory, Smith ended the season 6-10 overall while the Pilgrims fell to 5-8 overall.
In the
opening thirty minutes, both teams exchanged goals to tie it at 5-5 but with eleven minutes remaining the Pioneers
tallied three unanswered shots to take an 8-5 lead into halftime. The Pilgrims scored the first two goals of the
second half to come within one, 8-7, but Smith responded with two goals of its
own to again take a three goal lead. New England scored again at the 12:51 and 9:02 marks, but
it wasnt enough as the Pioneers went on to take the 14-9 win.
First year Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) scored a team and game high five goals for Smith while sophomore Emily Riff (Wayzata, MN) added three goals. Makaila Sinclair (Marblehead, MA) was the top scorer for the Pilgrims with three goals. Junior Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) picked up her sixth win of the season in goal for the Pioneers making eleven saves while Sarah Tracey (Aurora, Ontario) took the loss for New England.
