Track & Field Places Fourth at Southern Maine
Invitational
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers
of Smith finished in fourth place out of eight schools this afternoon at the University of Southern Maine’s Track & Field
Invitational. The host school won the event with 217.5 points followed by Bates
(148), UMass-Dartmouth (87), Smith (69), Rhode Island
College (29.5), Emmanuel (19), Community College of Rhode Island (12) and Emerson (12).
Senior McKane Sharff (Arlington, MA)
led the way for Smith winning the 200m in a time of 26.88, 55m in 7.48 and was
a member of the 4x200m relay team that also took first in a time of 1:55.06. Other
members of the 4x200 were Caitlin
Ritchie (Meriden,
CT), Alina Ainyette (South
Orange, NJ) and Etta Grover-Silva
(Arcata, CA).
First Jasmine Liverpool (Brooklyn, NY)
also gave a winning performance taking the 600m in 1:47.9.
Other scorers
for Smith included Grover-Silva who
jumped her personal best, qualified for ECAC’s and took third in the pole vault
(10’3). Alison Cloutier (East Hampton, CT) finished third and Sari Field (Nutley, NJ) fifth in the 3000m;
Ainyette, Hailey Bird (Salt Lake City, UT) and Lindsey Nguyen (Brockton, MA) placed 5th, 6th and 7th respectively in the 400m
and Liverpool jumped 14’10.25” in the
long jump for 7th .
