Tennis Drops a 4-5 Decision to Union College

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to the visiting Dutchwomen 4-5 in today’s non-conference see-saw match-up. The Pioneers were unable to pull away with the win, despite the fact that many individual players downed their opponents in two-game matches. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 5-14 on the season.

Smith owned the doubles section of the day, winning two of three. Senior Kate Johnson (Auburn, KS) and junior Catherine Lydecker (Conway, NH) combined to defeat Jennie Werts (New York, NY) and Jessica Meola (Hartsdale, NY) 8-6 in the number one doubles spot. First year Alanna Dick (Winthrop, ME) and sophomore Tina Jackson (Payson, AZ) downed Kathleen Rucci (Schenectady, NY) and Abby Cable (Weston, MA) 8-2.

As for singles action, both Miyu Kikuchi (Tokyo, JAPAN) and Lydecker walked away with victories.

The Pioneers are back in action again Friday, April 20th when the travel to Middletown, CT for a 3:30 pm match-up with Wesleyan.
