Bircher Falls in CSA Championships

Philadelphia, PA: Beatrice Bircher (BERN, Switzerland) was the only Pioneer to compete in the Holleran Division of the CSA Championships this weekend at the University of Pennsylvania.  Players competing in this division are playing for positions 32-64 in the country.

Bircher lost her first round match this weekend to the 7th seeded Jennifer Coxe of Williams College.  Despite her efforts, Coxe was one of the best players Bircher faced all season and ended the match in three games (9-0, 9-2, 9-7).  Bircher then went on to the consolation round where she lost a close match to Rachael Rayfield of George Washington University.  She won the first game but was unable to hang on, losing a tight match 7-9, 9-1, 9-5, and 9-6.  This was the third time Bircher played Rayfield this season, losing the first match-up 3-2, and then falling at the Howe Cup 3-0.

With the conclusion of the weekend, the squash season comes to an official end.  Despite their overall record, this year’s squad showed much improvement throughout the course of the season.  Head Coach Tim Bacon is excited about the future of his young team, as he loses none to graduation.
