Smith Ski Team Qualifies for USCSA National
Championship
Northampton, MA: The
Pioneers’ fourth place overall finish at the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference
(ECSC) Regional Championships on Sunday earned them a spot at the United States
Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA)
National Championships to be held at Winter Park, Colorado, March 6-11. This
year’s trip to nationals will be Smith’s sixth appearance in the past 21 years
with their most recent in 2002.
The
Pioneers finished 5th among 17 teams in the slalom on Saturday and 4th
in the GS on Sunday for overall fourth place.
Junior Lindsey MacNabb (Vernon,
British Columbia) had the best
performance for Smith in the slalom as she finished 10th followed by
junior Mikaela Martineau (Providence,
UT) in14th place with first years Kellie Tingle (Thomaston, CT) and Kara Munsey (Burnt Hills, NY) 19th and 20th respectively.
In the
giant slalom on Sunday, Munsey led
the way taking 6th followed by Martineau
in 8th, Tingle in 21st
and first year Julia Nave (Juneau, AK)
30th. Martineau was named to the All Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference
Team in both disciplines while McNabb earned All Conference honors in the slalom and Munsey in the Giant Slalom based on their top-15 performances.
