                 Ski Team Moves Into Conference Top Five

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers of Smith moved into fifth place in the overall MacConnell Division standings this past weekend with their 5th place finish in the slalom at Wachusett, MA and 4th place in the giant slalom at Loon Mountain, NH.
     Smith finished .03 seconds behind third place finisher Colby Sawyer in the GS that pushed the Pioneers into fifth place, two points ahead of UMASS. Junior Lindsey MacNabb (Vernon, British Columbia) had a great weekend sking to a 6th place finish in the GS and 7th place in the slalom for the Pioneers. Classmate Mikaela Martineau (Providence, UT) finished 14th in the GS and 21st in the slalom. First year Kellie Tingle (Thomaston, CT) had a top 20 performance in the slalom taking 19th place while teammates Julia Nave (Juneau, AK) and Kara Munsey (Burnt Hills, NY) placed 21st and 22nd respectively in the slalom.
     Smith will compete in their last regular season races on February 10-11 at Ascutney, VT. If the team can maintain their top five standing, they will qualify for Regionals.
