                 Ski Team Qualifies for Regionals

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers of Smith qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference Regional Championships with their two 5th place finishes in the giant slalom at Ascutney, VT this past weekend. The team will make their first appearance since 2002 at Regionals which will be held on February 24-25 at Waterville Valley NH.

     Three weeks ago, Smith was five points behind UMASS for the fifth qualifying spot at Regionals, but after this weekend, the team finished six points ahead of UMASS to secure 5th position in the standings.

     Junior Lindsey MacNabb (Vernon, British Columbia) led the Pioneers this past weekend skiing to 10th place on Saturday and 12th on Sunday. With her 7th place final individual overall standing, she was named to the All-MacConnell Divison Team. Classmate Mikaela Martineau (Providence, UT) had 26th and 12th place finishes; first year Kellie Tingle (Thomaston, CT) placed 25th and 19th; first year Kara Munsey (Burnt Hills, NY) 19th and 23rd and first year Julia Nave (Juneau, AK) 27th and 20th.
