     Swimming & Diving in Tenth Place After Day One of
                                NEWMAC Championship

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers struggled yesterday (day one) of the three-day NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships being held at Wellesley College with only two individuals and one relay team tallying points for Smith.

     Junior Marly Pineda (Bosque Farms, NH) finished 4th in the 500 freestyle (5:18.53) and Tessa Taylor (Seattle, WA) 11th in the 1m diving event with 364.10 points. The 400 medley relay team comprised of sophomore Erika Bridges (La Crescenta, CA), Pineda, Rachel Dorset (Stratford, CT) and Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL) finished 14th with a time of 4:27.91.

     The championship continues today and tomorrow at Wellesley.
