| February 3, 2007 For Immediate Release Contact: Carole Grills (413) 585-2703 Swimming & Diving Defeats Valley Rival Mount Holyoke Northampton, MA: Smith sophomore Erika Bridges (La Crescenta, CA) achieved lifetime best times in come-from-behind wins upsetting favored Laura Ferrante (Milford, CT) in the 100 & 200 back this afternoon to help the Pioneers defeat the Lyons 180-119. Junior Marly Pineda (Bosque Farms, NH) also had an outstanding afternoon for Smith winning three events (200 free, 100 fly & 200 fly). Curtiss Taylor (Seatlle, WA) was another double winner for the Pioneers winning the 1 and 3-meter diving events. Other event winners for Smith included Abigail Carr (New York, NY) in the 800 free; Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL) in the 50 free; Adrienne Klein (Shrewdbury, MA) in the 200 breaststroke; and Kotey, Carr, Pineda and Faith Latella (Douglastown, NY) in the 400 freestyle. With today's victory, Smith improved to 4-5-1 while Mount Holyoke fell to 3-6 in dual meet competition. Both teams will compete in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship February 16-18 to be held at Wellesley College. |
