       Softball Splits Doubleheader With Williams

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers (9-13) split a non-conference doubleheader at Williams (8-11) yesterday winning the first game 1-0 and losing the second 4-2.

Sophomore Emily Hiltzik (Westbury, NY) shutout Williams in the first game going the distance and gave up seven hits. First year Megan Kiefer (Oak Park, IL) led off with one of her four hits for the day and advanced to second on a bunt by Chloe Pete (Beaverton, IL).  Both runners advanced on a ground out and Kiefer scored the winning run of the game on a wild pitch.

The Pioneers opened the second game putting two runs on the board as Kiefer again led off and hit a double to left field. Pete singled and Kiefer advanced to third and scored on an error. Nicole Banton (Shaver Lake, CA) flied out to deep right field and Pete tallied the second run for Smith.  Williams tied the game in the bottom of the third on two wild pitches and registered two more runs in the sixth to seal the victory.  Dezarai Fisher (Phoenix, AZ) gave up just three hits in the loss for Smith.
