| May 3, 2007 For Immediate Release Contact: Carole Grills (413) 585-2703 Spring Athletes Receive NEWMAC Recognition Northampton, MA: Debbie Sasges (Vancouver, BC), Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY), Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY), McKane Sharff (Arlington, MA), Shayla Livingston (Sharon, VT), Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA), MargauxBuchanan (Lake Forest, IL), Elizabeth Fishback (Pittsburgh, PA) and Julie Olson (Fairbanks, AK) were all selected to their respective New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All Conference teams. Sasges, who was voted onto the All Conference First Team, was a four year member of the softball team and led all Smith players this season with a .437 batting average. She set six new school records including most at bats in a season, hits in a season, hits in a career, runs scored in a season, most triples in a career and highest career batting average. Juniors Sara Smith and Sara Smyth were voted onto the Lacrosse All Conference First and Second Teams respectively. Co-captain Smith has played in goal three years for the Pioneers and played every minute of each game this season. Smyth led the the Pioneers in scoring this season with 45 goals and 12 assists. Sharff, Livingston and Grover-Silva all earned Track & Field Second Team All Conference honors with their second place Conference Championship finishes in the 100m, 400m hurdles and pole vault respectively while Buchanan, Fishback and Olson were named to the Crew All Conference Team. |
