| April 21, 2007 For Immediate Release Contact: Carole Grills (413) 585-2703 Lacrosse Falls at Wheaton, 18-9 Northampton, MA: The Pioneers took a 5-3 lead into halftime in Norton, MA but the Lyons roared back in the second thirty minutes tallying twelve straight goals to put the game out of reach for Smith. Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY) tallied three of her team's high four goals in the first half with Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) and Emily Riff (Wayzata, MN) each adding one. The Lyons rattled off twelve straight in the first fourteen minutes of the second half before Michelle Walsh (Northampton, MA) and Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ) registered back-to-back goals for Smith to bring the score to 15-7. Smyth and Amelia Maturo (Ann Arbor, MI) picked up the last two goals for the Pioneers while junior Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) made 26 saves in goal. With the loss, Smith falls to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in NEWMAC competition and will be the sixth seed in the NEWMAC Championship that begins on Wednesday. Wheaton improved to 4-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play. |
