 Smith Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Opener to Babson 14-7

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers fell to Babson 14-7 this afternoon in their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener which dropped Smith’s overall record to 3-4 while the Beavers improved to 5-2.

   
Babson’s strong midfield defense and the shooting accuracy of sophomore Lindsay Bucci (Medford, MA) helped the Beavers take a 9-4 lead into the half. Bucci scored four of her game high five goals in the first 30 minutes while teammate Anna Collins (Winchester, MA) chipped in with two.  Smith junior Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY) picked up two of her team high four goals in the first half with Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ) and Emily Riff (Wayzata, MN)
rounding out the scoring for the Pioneers.

             The Beavers netted five more goals in the second half while their defense held Smith to three. Babson’s senior keeper Jennie Williams (Andover, MA) made five saves en route to her fourth win of the year while Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) made eleven saves in the loss for Smith.
