| April 21, 2007 For Immediate Release Contact: Carole Grills (413) 585-2703 Crew Takes Third at NEWMAC Championship Northampton, MA: The Pioneers took third today in overall points behind Mount Holyoke and Wellesley at the NEWMAC Championship held at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA. Coast Guard, the winner of the varsity eight race, was crowned NEWMAC Champion. The Florence Jope Smith Cup is awarded to the school with the highest number of points from today's overall results. Mount Holyoke was first with 38 points, Wellesley second with 36, Smith third with 34, Coast Guard fifth (28 pts), and Clark and WPI each had 6 points Mount Holyoke won the novice eight race in 7:39.60 with Wellesley second, Smith third (7:54.31) and Coast Guard fourth. The third varsity 8 race was won by Mount Holyoke (8:04.22) with Wellesley second and Smith third (8:20.87). Wellesley won the second varsity eight race (7:37.50) with Coast Guard second, Smith third (7:42.72), Mount Holyoke fourth and Clark fifth. The Bears of the Coast Guard Academy rowed to the NEWMAC title in 7:14.10, four seconds ahead of the Pioneers (7:18.97). Mount Holyoke finished third followed by WPI, Wellesley and Clark. |
