               Mount Holyoke Defeats Smith

Northampton, MA: The Lyons of Mount Holyoke defeated Smith last night in South Hadley in a come-from-behind 61-48 game. With the win, Mount Holyoke improved to 17-7 (9-3) while Smith fell to 2-21 (1-11).

     The Pioneers got on the board early putting together a 13-2 run over the first four and a half minutes of play and defensively forced the Lyons into seven turnovers. The home team slowly recovered to tie the game at 13 and again at 20 before Smith outscored Mount Holyoke 6-3 in the final three minutes to take a 26-23 lead into the half.

     Mount Holyoke's recovery continued in the second half as their offense stepped it up and outscored the Pioneers 38-22 to secure the victory. First year Berit Schelde (Holstlebro, Denmark) tallied a game high 18 points for Smith while senior Helena Charron (Portland, ME) chipped in with 11 and pulled down 9 rebounds in the loss.

     Jessica Olseon (Gilbert, AZ) registered a double-double for the Lyons with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Joeanna Silvey (Boston, MA) added 10 points and Angela Astuccio (Foxboro, MA) 14 in the Lyon's victory.
