Haverford, PA: The Pioneers finished fourth out of seven squads today at the Seven Sisters Championship hosted by Haverford College. The championship, which was to have been conducted at Rose Tree Park in Media, was switched to Haverford's Featherbed Fields and Nature Trail by meet host Bryn Mawr earlier in the week, after construction at Rose Tree prevented competition there. The course changed proved beneficial for Haverford, as they won the Championship with a total of 38 points. They were followed by fellow Centennial Conference member Swarthmore College with 70 points. Wellesley College finished third with 75 points, followed by the Smith with a total of 90 points. Sophomore Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) was the first Pioneer to complete the 3 mile course with a time of 18:38, for an overall finish of 8th place. Coming in behind Youngs was junior Alison Cloutier (Easthampton, CT), who finished 14th with a time of 18:58. First year runner Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) finished 20th overall with a time of 19:17 in her first race as a Pioneer. First year Meredith Jones (Ridgewood, NJ) followed closely, finishing with a time of 19:21 for 23rd place. Rounding out the top five for Smith was sophomore Sari Field (Nutley, NJ) who finished 25th overall with a time of 19:25. The Pioneers are back in action on October 29th as they compete in the NEWMAC Championship at Mount Holyoke College. |
