Cressotti Wins Smith Cross-Country Invitational

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers’ Anna Cressotti ’10  (Southampton, MA) won her first collegiate race today finishing Smith’s 5,000m course in a time of 19:23.10, thirty-two seconds ahead of second place finisher Aidan van Cleef from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. In the men’s race, Franny Cusick from Lesley College finished the same distance in a time of 18:40.85.

             Smith and Coast Guard placed ten runners in the top thirteen with Coast Guard pulling out the team victory with 27 points followed by Smith with 36, Mount Holyoke 63, Lasell with 135, Lesley 152 and Elms 155. Lasell won the men’s race with 15 points as Elms and Lesley did not have enough competitors for a team score.

            In addition to Cresssoti, scoring for Smith were sophomore Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) in 6^th first year Meredith Jones (Ridgewood, NJ) in 7^th, place, junior Alison Cloutier (Easthampton, CT) in 10^th and first year Megan Kiefer (River Forest, IL) in 12^th place.

            The Pioneers race again at the Harrier Classic in Boston on September 23^rd.
