           Smith Tennis Defeats Wheaton 5-4

Northampton, MA:  Smith faced New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Wheaton College today in Norton and came home with a 5-4 victory. With the win, Smith is now tied with Wheaton in fourth place in the conference standings and improve to 3-4 overall while Wheaton falls to 7-3. The match was all square with Smith's number five singles player Macailagh Herman (Rumson, NJ) winning the decisive match in a three setter, with a tie breaker in the third set 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5). The Pioneers will travel to NEWMAC rival Springfield College next Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.

1.  Miyu Kikuchi (SC) defeated Briana Jackson, 6-3, 6-2
2.  Seiko Fujii (SC) defeated Jamie Weiss, 6-1, 6-1
3.  Kate Johnson (SC) lost to Darby McDermott, 2-6,0-6
4.  Catherine Lydecker (SC) defeated Katherine Knies, 3-0 retired
5.  Macailagh Herman defeated Maya Milic-Strkalj, 6-2, 2-6,
                             7-6 (7-5)
6.  Alanna Dick lost to Oriana Federico, 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7)

Doubles
1.  Johnson/Herman lost to McDermott/Jackson, 6-8
2.  Fujii/Kikuchi lost to Weiss/Milic-Strkalj, 6-8
3.  Lydecker/Talia Williams defeated Federico/Alexandra Magee, 8-1
