Northampton, MA: The Pioneers dropped to 0-2 this evening as they fell to Tufts University 8-1 in tonight’s non-conference contest. The Jumbos swept the singles action, taking all six matches from Smith. Junior Catherine Lydecker (Conway, NH) was the only Pioneer to take the match to three games, falling 6-2, 2-6, and 10-2 against Tufts’ Silvia Schmid (Milano, ITALY) in the number four singles’ spot. The Pioneers’ only victory came from the senior duo of Kate Johnson (Auburn, KS) and Macailagh Herman (Monmouth Beach, NJ) in the number two doubles’ spot, as they defeated Meghan McCooey (Cumberland, RI) and Erica Miller (Boca Raton, FL) 8-6. The Pioneers are back in action this Saturday when they hit the road to square off against Babson College in a NEWMAC match-up. Match time is scheduled for 1 pm. Singles 1.
