          Tennis Bows Out of NEWMAC Championship

Northampton, MA:  The Smith Pioneers lost in the semifinals of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tennis Championship last night to defending champion Wellesley College 5-0.
      The "Blue" swept the doubles matches and won two of the singles to take the 5-0 victory.  With the loss, Smith finishes the season with a 5-5 record while Wellesley improves to 9-1.  Wellesley will face MIT today in the finals.

Doubles
1. Kate Johnson (Auburn, KS)/Macailagh Herman (Rumson, NJ) lost to Jenna Mezin/Hali Walther, 3-8
2.  Miyu Kikuchi (Tokyo, Japan)/Sieko Fujii (Aichi, Japan) lost to Jennifer Schwarzkopf/Meghan Stubblebine, 0-8
3.  Catherine Lydecker (Conway, NH)/Talia Williams (Montpelier, VT) lost to Mohona Siddique/Jane Booth-Tobin, 5-8

Singles
1.  Kikuchi vs. Mezin, 1-6,0-4 (incomplete)
2.  Fujii  lost to Schwarzkopf, 1-6, 1-6
3.  Johnson vs. Walther, 3-6,0-4 (incomplete)
4.  Lydecker vs. Alex Lucas, 1-6,0-2 (incomplete)
5.  Herman lost to Stubblebine, 1-6,2-6
