Northampton, MA: In tonight’s home match against NEWMAC opponent Mount Holyoke College, the Pioneers fell to the Lyons with a score of 2-6. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 2-1 overall, as well as 2-1 in the NEWMAC. The Pioneers, who were tied with the Lyons in conference standings before today’s match, fall to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the NEWMAC. Smith’s only singles’ victor was junior Seiko Fujii (Aichi, JAPAN). Fujii beat Ashley Fallon (Mansfield, MA) in the number two spot with scores of 5-7, 6-1, and 10-3. Kate Johnson (Aubrn, KS), Catherine Lydecker (Conway, NH), and Macailagh Herman (Manmouth Beach, NJ) all took their matches to three sets but were unable to secure the victory. The doubles’ combination of Miyu Kikuchi (Tokyo, JAPAN) and Fujii defeated Sarah London (Mount Pleasant, SC) and Bo Kim (Sarasota, FL) by a score of 8-2. The Pioneers are back in action this weekend as they travel to play in the Omni ITA Tournament. Match times are not yet scheduled. Singles: 1. Angela Horner (MHC) def. Miyu Kikuchi (SC) 6-1, 6-0 2.
