            Smith Tennis Players Compete at ITA Tournament

Northampton, MA:  Singles players Seiko Fujii (Aichi,Japan) and Miyu Kikuchi (Tokyo, Japan) and doubles team Catherine Lydecker (Conway, NH) and Kate Johnson (Auburn, KS) competed this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tournament held at MIT in Cambridge.
      In first round action, Fujii faced Allison Dunn of Colby who was seeded fifth and lost 6-0, 6-0 which placed Seiko into the consolation bracket where she lost her match to Madalina Ursu of Wesleyan 6-0, 6-0.
     Kikuchi also lost her opening and consolation matches falling to Brittany Benkes of Amherst 6-1, 6-2 and Caryn Benisch of Bates 6-3,6-3.
     Doubles partners Lydecker and Johnson fell to Kelly Graham and Debbie Sharnak of Vassar 8-0 but won their first consolation match defeating Darby McDermott and Briana Jackson of Wheaton 8-4 before bowing out of the tournament with a loss to Alison Dunn and Tracy Nale of Colby 8-2.
