Squash Falls to Mount Holyoke in Home Opener

Northampton, MA: In tonight’s first home match-up with cross valley rival Mount Holyoke College, the Lyons defeated the Pioneers 9-0. The Pioneers fall to 1-1 while the Lyons improve to 3-1.

The Pioneers, who were coming off a strong victory against Northeastern, were unable to outlast the Lyons’ aggressive play. Although Smith received numerous compliments on the successful timing and execution of their drop shots, the Lyons were able to shutout the Pioneers by recording all nine victories by a margin of 3-0. Nonetheless, the young Smith squad, who has decided to focus on technique earlier in the season in hopes of it paying off in the long run, remained positive by being supportive of one another and continued to battle until the end of the match.

The Pioneers will take a few weeks off and return to competition Saturday, December 2nd as they travel to Middletown, CT to compete in the Wesleyan Invitational.
