                     Soccer Shutout By Wheaton

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers fell 4-0 to Wheaton College this afternoon in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams.

     It only took 11 minutes for the 15th nationally ranked Wheaton Lyons to get on the board on a header by Lyndsey McManus (Marshfield, MA) which was the only goal of the first half. McManus tallied her second goal of the game at the 59:44 mark on a free kick from 25 yards out with the Lyon's Jenna Rabesa (Teaticket, MA) adding the third goal within a minute of McManus's. Briget Furlong (Newburyport, MA) completed the scoring for the Lyons at the 86:43 mark. With the win, Wheaton improves to 8-1, 1-0 while Smith falls to 2-5, 0-1.

     Goalkeeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) picked up the loss for the Pioneers who return to play on Wednesday when they host non-conference Trinity at 4:15 p.m.
