Soccer Falls to Wheaton In NEWMAC Title Game Northampton, MA: The
Pioneers fell to Wheaton College, 3-0, yesterday in Norton in the title
game of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
Women's Soccer Championship. With the win, the Lyons improved to
20-1-1 and will make their seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA
Tournament. Smith fell to 11-7-1 and hope to make an appearance in the ECAC Tournament.
The first half of the title game remained scoreless with the home team
taking 9 shots to Smith's 2 but in the 60th minute, junior back Erin Davis (Easton, CT) collected a loose ball outside the midfield circle and scored the game winner into the upper middle of the net. Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) made two stops in goal in the loss while Wheaton keepers Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, MA) and Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA) combined for two saves in the win.
