Smith Soccer Defeats Mount Holyoke 5-0
Northampton, MA: The
Pioneers improved to 6-5-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the New England Women's
and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) after defeating the Lyons of
Mount Holyoke 5-0 in South Hadley this afternnon.
First year Sara Dilegge (Mashpee, MA)
scored the game winner for Smith three minutes and forty-five seconds
into the game as she found the upper corner of the net from the 18 yard
line. Less than three minutes later senior Natalie Sullivan (Aptos, CA) passed the ball wide to first year Hailey Bird (Salt Lake City, UT) who crossed it to Dalyn Houser (Atlanta, GA) for Smith's second goal. The Pioneers scored three more times before halftime on two goals by first year Valerie Driscoll (Keene, NH) and Bird. Sophomores Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) and Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) split time in goal for Smith with Bachtel picking up her third win of the season. Elizabeth Guenther (Pelham, NY) took the loss for Mount Holyoke who fell to 1-9-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the NEWMAC.
Smith will be in action again on Saturday when
they travel to NEWMAC rival Springfield Cololege for a 3 p.m. game.
