      Western New England Defeats Smith Field Hockey 3-0

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers were defeated by Western New England College 3-0 yesterday in Springfield in a non-conference contest.
      WNEC's Sarah McQuarrie (Windham, ME) scored the game winner with an assist by Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) with 4:22 remaining in the first half. Eggert added two more unassisted goals in the second half for the Golden Bears to help the home team improve to 7-6 overall.
      Emilie Donka (White River Jct., VT) made five saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season while the Pioneers' Chelsea Henderson (White Plains, NY) had eight saves in her first collegiate start for Smith.  With the loss, Smith falls to 4-9.
    The Pioneers have the weekend off and take to the road on Tuesday, Oct. 17 when they will travel to NEWMAC rival WPI for a 4 p.m. game.
