          Smith Field Hockey Loses 4-0 to Springfield in
 NEWMAC Quarterfinals

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers fell to Springfield College 4-0 this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2006 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Championship ending their season with an overall record of 6-11.
     Junior Eileen Jenkins (Gorham, ME) scored her fifth goal of the year and what proved to be the game winning goal with 21:39 remaining in the first half on a shot that rebounded off Smith keeper Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY).  Three minutes later Brittany Venzie (Dexter, ME) made it 2-0 as she also drilled home a shot that rebounded off Winter.
     The Pride continued the attack scoring less than 10 minutes into the second half when Emilyann Murray (Boonton, NJ) found herself unmarked on the top of the circle. Springfield's final goal was scored off a corner by Jane Kelleher (Chatham, MA) with 11:22 left in regulation.
    Kaitlyn Murdough (Hinsdale, NH) made three defensive saves in the first half and Margaret Winter made a game high 23 saves for Smith.
    With the win, Springfield (15-5) advances to the final four next weekend.
