                       Field Hockey Defeats Elms 1-0

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers picked up their second win of the season yesterday taking a 1-0 victory at Elms College. With the victory, Smith halted a two-game losing streak to improve to 2-4 overall while Elms fell to 0-6.

     First year Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) tallied her fifth goal of the season in the win for Smith at the 27:37 mark of the first half off a penalty corner with the assist attributed to classmate Grace Wittenberg (Fox Point, WI).  Goalkeeper Margaret Winter '10 (Purchase, NY) picked up her second shutout of the season for the Pioneers.


     The Pioneers open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition on Saturday when they travel to Cambridge to face MIT at 1 p.m.
