Smith Equestrians Finish Fourth in Opening Show

 
Northampton, MA:  In the first IHSA Show in Zone I, Region III, the Pioneers placed fourth overall out of ten competing schools.  Mount Holyoke won the event with 38 points followed by UMass with 36, Becker with 31 and Smith with 30.

             Senior Emily Hertz (Brattleboro, VT) took a blue ribbon in open flat as did Katherine Yohay (Bethesda, MD) in beginning walk- trot- canter which will move her from beginning to advanced walk-trot-canter the remainder of the year.  Other first place performances were given by Sarah Maxner (Norwich, VT) in advanced walk- trot-canter and alumnae Jessica Willis in alumnae flat and alumnae fences.

             Red ribbons were won by Michaela LeBlanc (Cotuit, MA), Rosemary Bethea (Trenton, NJ), Kathryn Mishkin (Old Chatham, NY) and Christine Stine (East Dover, VT) with third place ribbons going to Hertz, Amanda Downing (Cardiff By The Sea, CA), Bridget Arsenault (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Martha MaloneyHuss (Wilmington, DE).

             The Pioneers will compete again on Saturday, October 14 at the UMass Show.
