   Basketball Suffers One-Point Loss in Season Opener

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers fell in their season opener 53-52 to the University of Maine at Fort Kent last night at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.  With the win, Ft. Kent improved to 6-0.

     Smith was down by ten at the half 32-22 and made a comeback in the final 20 minutes outscoring the Bengals 30-21 but found itself just two points short of the win at the end of regulation. Ashley Ames (Dexter, ME) scored game highs of 22 points and 9 rebounds in the win for Ft. Kent.  Senior Helena Charron (Portland, ME) and first year Berit Schedle (Holstebro, Denmark) led the PIoneers in scoring with 10 points each while first year Lisa Marie Vuono (Lyndhurst, NJ) pulled down a team high 8 rebounds.

     The Pioneers face Bowdoin College today at 3 pm in Brunswick.
