              Elms Defeats Smith Basketball 42-40

Northampton, MA:  The Blazers of Elms College defeated the Pioneers last night in Chicopee in a come-from-behind 42-40 non-conference victory. The win improved Elms record to 2-1 while Smith fell to 0-3.

     Both teams struggled in the first twenty minutes each shooting under 25 percent with Smith taking a 23-19 lead into the half.  The Blazers opened the second half with a 7-0 run (26-23) to take the lead which they never relinguished.  Elms junior point guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) netted a game-high 16 points. First year Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) chipped in with 10 points and a team high 14 rebounds.


     First year guard Berit Schelde (Holstebro,DENMARK) was the high scorer for the Pioneers with 13 points and sophomore Courtney Parker (Berlin, MD) pulled down a game high 17 rebounds in the loss.

     The Pioneers return from Thanksgiving break to host Trinity College in the Tyler Home Tip-Off game on Tuesday, November 28 at 7 p.m.
