Basketball Finishes in 4th Place at 7 Sisters Tournament

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers played Vassar College today for third place in the 7 Sisters Tournament.  Smith lost 53-41 as the team falls to 1-6 and Vassar College takes third place improving to 3-4.

Despite having the lead early in the game, the Pioneers were unable to overcome the 5 point lead (30-25) Vassar held at the half.  Vassar was led by first year Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME) who scored a game-high 18 points and had 13 rebounds and senior Rachel Cerlen (Florham Park, NJ) who scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. 

The Pioneers received a game-high 17 points from first year guard Lisa Marie Vuono (Lyndhurst, NJ), while sophomore guard Rosie Baldwin (South Strafford, CT) led the team in rebounding with 6 boards.

Smith shot 32.8% in the game versus Vassar’s 31.5% however, Smith turned the ball over 18 times compared to Vassar’s 15, and Smith was out rebounded 46-34 in the contest. 

Smith will face Middlebury College on Saturday, December 9, at 2 pm at home.
