WELLESLEY AND MIT WIN NEWMAC
CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Northampton, MA: Wellesley College regained the New England
Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) cross-country title while the
MIT men won their eighth consecutive championship this morning in Northampton
on the Smith College cross-country course.
Wellesley,
which has won the title five times since 1998, placed five runners in the top
fourteen to win the 5,000m meet with 43 points. Springfield’s Meg Young ’06 (Hurley, NY) was the
individual winner with a time of 18:39.30 earning Runner of the Year honors
while Wellesley’s Relena Ribbons (Pine
Grove Mills, PA) was the top first year to place (3rd) with a time
of 19:08.20 garnering Rookie of the Year honors.
MIT took second thru sixth and 9th place
to win the men’s championship. Junior Michael
Flint (Fairfax, VA) from the US Coast Guard Academy was the individual
winner of the 8,000m race crossing the finish line in 26:00.80 earning Runner
of the Year honors. MIT’s Jake Ruzevick
(Coronado, CA) was named Rookie of the Year as the top finishing
first year (6th place overall) in a time of 26:31.30.
