Volleyball to Play for Seven Sisters Title
Swarthmore, PA: Smith
College won both its games today
defeating Haverford and Vassar to advance to the championship game of the 2005
Seven Sisters Championship tomorrow at noon. Wellesley
College will be the Pioneers’
opponent as they defeated both Elms and Swarthmore en route to the title game.
In the
first game today for the Pioneers, Smith defeated Haverford 3-0 (30-24, 30-26,
30-21). Senior Kate Sorensen (Kelso,
WA) had a team-high 19 kills and 21 digs
with teammate Catherine Shafer (Red Bluff, CA) adding 13 kills and 21
digs. Senior libero Megumi Sasaki (Singapore)
contributed with 21 digs while senior setter Lauren Perry (Metairie,
LA) handed out 36 assists.
The match
against Vassar went 5 games (27-30,30-23,24-30,30-22,15-13) with Smith winning
pulling out the final game by two points. Shafer and Sorensen led the team in
kills with 25 and 21 respectively with Sorensen adding 18 digs and two service
aces. Sasaki tallied 16 digs while Perry
had 54 assists.
With these
two wins, the Pioneers improve their overall record to 13-3.
