| October 18, 2005 For Immediate Release Contact: Carole Grills (413) 585-2703 Smith Volleyball Defeats Mount Holyoke 3-0 Northampton, MA: The Pioneers of Smith defeated valley rival Mount Holyoke College this evening 3-0 to maintain their fourth place standing in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. With the win, Smith improves to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the NEWMAC while Mount Holyoke falls to 8-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference. The Pioneers controlled each game winning 30-12, 30-15, and 30-16. Smith scored ten straight points in the first game to open it 18-6 and never looked back. The second game was similar. With the score 8-3, Smith ran off the next 12 points to take a 20-3 lead and won it 30-15. Smith’s Kate Sorensen (Kelso, WA) had a team high 12 kills; Deb Sasges (Vancouver, BC, Canada) added 8 kills with 10 digs; Katie Shafer (Red Bluff, CA) contributed with 12 digs while Lauren Perry (Metairie, LA) added 31 assists with four service aces.
