         Smith Volleyball Defeats Mount Holyoke 3-0

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers of Smith defeated valley rival Mount Holyoke College this evening 3-0 to maintain their fourth place standing in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. With the win, Smith improves to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the NEWMAC while Mount Holyoke falls to 8-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
    The Pioneers controlled each game winning 30-12, 30-15, and 30-16. Smith scored ten straight points in the first game to open it 18-6 and never looked back. The second game was similar. With the score 8-3, Smith ran off the next 12 points to take a 20-3 lead and won it 30-15. Smith’s Kate Sorensen (Kelso, WA) had a team high 12 kills; Deb Sasges (Vancouver, BC, Canada) added 8 kills with 10 digs; Katie Shafer (Red Bluff, CA) contributed with 12 digs while Lauren Perry (Metairie, LA) added 31 assists with four service aces.
    The Pioneers are in action again this weekend as they co-host the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
