 Smith Wins 2005 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship

Swarthmore, PA:  Smith College defeated Wellesley College 3-0 today to win the 2005 Seven Sisters Volleyball Championship for the first time in ten years. MVP Kate Sorensen (Kelso, WA) had a match-high 14 kills and 22 digs to lead the Pioneers to their 30-15, 30-26, 30-27 victory.
            All tournament team selection Lauren Perry (Metairie, LA) registered 30 assists today while teammate Katie Shafer (Red Bluff, CA) contributed with 11 kills and 26 digs.  Sophomore Samantha Lyon (Los Angeles, CA) served three aces in the win and blocked one shot. With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 14-3 overall.
            In addition to Sorensen and Perry receiving MVP and All Tourney selections, Laura Ackerman of Wellesley, Jennifer Wang of Swarthmore, Samantha Thomson of Haverford and Anita Stavin of Vassar also were named to the All Tournament Team.

            Final results of the championship:

                        Champion – Smith College
                        2nd place – Wellesley College
                        3rd place – Vassar College
                        4th place – Swarthmore College
                        5th  place – Haverford College
                        6th place – Mount Holyoke College
                        7th place – Bryn Mawr College
                        8th place – Elms College
