Norton, MA: Smith fell to NEWMAC opponent Wheaton College in tonight’s 1-0 heartbreaking loss. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Pioneers are currently 6-4-2 on the year and 3-2-1 in the NEWMAC. The game highlighted solid defense by both teams, as neither was able to score within the 90 minutes of regulated game time. Smith goalkeeper Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) kept the Lyons silent throughout both halves as she recorded 11 saves on the night. Wheaton’s Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA) was flawless in the goal with 2 saves. However, after 98 minutes of scoreless play, Wheaton’s Katie Hall (Longmont, CO) scored the game’s only goal at 98:34 on an assist by Lauren Konopka (Medford, NJ).
