Hartford, CT: Senior tri-captain Catherine Peo (Stow, MA)
scored two goals yesterday including the game tying goal in regulation
and the winning goal in overtime to give the Pioneers a 2-1 victory
over the Bantams of Trinity. Smith improves to 4-2-1 while Trinity
falls to 3-4 overall.
First year midfielder Devin Nwanagu (Westborough, MA) put the home team on the board at the 7:42 mark with the assist going to Sara Thiede (Lewisburg, PA). Trinity's defense held the Pioneers scoreless for the next 65 minutes until Peo tied the game up sending the ball over the head of Bantam keeper Tara Finucane (Branford, CT) on a pass from first year Sydney Stoker (Salt Lake City, UT). Trinity had a chance to grab the overtime win on a shot that just sailed over the crossbar but the Pioneers' pressure on goal paid off as Peo and Stoker paired up again with Peo finding the far right corner of the net. First year Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) made four saves in goal for Smith while Finucane stopped three shots. Smith will be in action again on Saturday, October 1 when they host NEWMAC rival Babson College at 1 p.m. 1 2 OT F Trinity (3-4) 1 0 0 1 Smith (4-2-1) 0 1 1 2 Scoring: TC - Deven Nwanagu (Sara Thiede) 7:42 S - Catherine Peo (Sydney Stoker, Caitlin Colman-McGaw) 72:51 S - Catherine Peo (Sydney Stoker ) 95:31 Goalkeeper Saves: TC - Tara Finucane 3 S - Marlowe Dieckmann 4 SOG TC -9 S -8 Corner Kicks TC - 5 S - 5 |
