               Springfield Soccer Defeats Smith 2-1

Northampton, MA: Senior Amanda Nealon (Falmouth, MA) scored twice for the Pride as Springfield College defeated Smith 2-1 this afternoon in Northampton. With the win, Springfield improves to 9-4-2 overall and 6-1 in NEWMAC play while the Pioneers fall to 6-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference.
    The first half was evenly played and ended without either team scoring. The second half was dominated by the Pride as they out-shot Smith 10-2 and it paid off when sophomore Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, CT) dribbled the ball down the right side and crossed it to Nealon at the 75:34 mark to put Springfield on the board. The Pride scored again in a similar play six minutes later as first year Lauren Peltier (Agawam, MA) chipped the ball to Bugbee in the right corner who again crossed it to Nealon who scored the game winning goal. The Pioneers fought back to within one on a goal by Catherine Peo (Stow, MA) at the 85:33 mark but Smith couldn’t convert another goal to tie it.
    The Pioneers are in action again on Saturday when they host NEWMAC rival Wellesley College while the Pride host MIT.
