Smith Soccer Defeated by Skidmore 2-0

Saratoga Springs, NY:  The Thoroughbreds of Skidmore scored twice in the first half, shutting out the Pioneers of Smith 2-0 in this afternoon’s non-conference matchup.  With the loss Smith stands at 1-2-1, while Skidmore improves to 5-1-0.

Leigh Stokey of Skidmore put the Thoroughbreds on the board at 12:14 with the 1-0 lead and the eventual game winning goal.  Morgan Cadwell added the insurance goal with only three minutes remaining in the first half for the 2-0 lead.

While Smith out-shot the Thoroughbreds 13-10 and had the advantage on corners (5-4) they simply couldn’t get the ball past Skidmore keeper Liza Mills who recorded 8 saves.  First year Smith keeper Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) recorded 5 saves in 90 minutes of play.

Smith will open play at home this Wednesday when they host non conference opponent Wesleyan at 4:30 pm.
